Young & Restless Exclusive: Joshua Morrow Reveals Why ‘Shick’ Could Never Be Another Victor and Nikki
The Young and the Restless’ Nick and Sharon “often get compared to Victor and Nikki,” Joshua Morrow tells Soaps.com. But it’s a bit like lumping apples into the same category as oranges. “The main difference between them is that Victor and Nikki didn’t have a Phyllis, but Nick and Sharon do have a Phyllis. That’s always going to be a problem for that pairing.”
That isn’t a complaint, mind you. “My favorite storyline I’ve ever had is the Sharon/Nick/Phyllis triangle,” Morrow says. “That elevated Nick’s character into a completely different echelon of leading man, if you will.” On the other side of it, he was left with “these two incredible loves of his life.
“On one hand, we’ve got Sharon, who is this beautiful, young love story, the Romeo and Juliet against-all-odds type thing,” he continues. “They grew up together, and they’ve both hurt each other in horrible ways.”
On the other hand, we’ve got Phyllis. And whereas many interlopers have come between Victor and Nikki, they never really posed the kind of threat that Phyllis did. “She literally saved Nick’s life after Cassie died,” Morrow notes. “That relationship came out of this incredible loss, and it really saved Nick. He was going down a bad path.”
Now, although Victor is unlikely to be tempted anew by Ashley or Nikki, by Jack, Nick remains forever drawn to Sharon and Phyllis. “He’s never going to turn the page on either one of them. They’re always going to go back. They’ve got too much history and too much love for each other,” says Morrow. “It’s a different kind of love, but it’s love on both sides. That triangle is very special to me. I love those two women.
“Obviously, I’m very blessed to work with Sharon Case and Michelle Stafford,” he adds. “They’re just awesome talents and really good friends of mine. ‘Shick’ fans and ‘Phick’ fans may be sort of at each other’s throats at times, but they know that at some point, Nick will journey his way back to one of them. It just depends on what the show wants, but it’ll never go away.”
