It’s a new morning in Port Charles. Brennan stops by Bobbie’s with news for Carly. He tells her that Anna and Jason have been invited to Sidwell’s compound. Carly asks if they are safe. He says, for now, they are. She deduces he’s not telling her something. He says too many unknowns concern him, such as Sidwell’s mystery companion, and that the element of surprise has been lost. Jason and Anna are going to have to deceive Sidwell, and he worries his companion could be another agency’s field operative.
Carly says Jason is the most capable man she knows, but he is a terrible liar. Brennan says he’ll have to rely on Anna then and asks if he’ll be able to do so, as some men don’t like strong women. Carly laughs that is not Jason, and it is also so outdated and cliché.
Diane arrives to get her usual breakfast muffin, and Carly introduces her to Brennan. Diane asks for a private word with Carly. Brennan says he’ll leave them to their talk and will see Carly soon.
Brennan leaves, and Carly asks what that was about. Diane tells her she can’t be seen flirting with Brennan when she’s led the PCPD to believe she and Sonny are an item. Diane says her alibi is already suspect, so they must solidify it. Carly asks what she’s suggesting. Diane suggests they move in with one another. Carly refuses. Diane warns her she’s probably being watched by the feds, so she has to convince them that she and Sonny are mad about one another. She also warns Carly if this alibi falls apart, Sonny will likely end up in jail, and she’ll be charged as an accessory. Diane says for now, “Operation Strange Bedfellows” remains in effect. Diane storms out.
Natalia shows up at Sonny’s restaurant to go over some business with him and finds him struggling with the new espresso machine his chef bought, which he doesn’t like. He liked his old machine better. Natalia says change is difficult, but to consider that this machine could be better than his old one. She gets the machine up and running and pours them two espressos. He admits it could be one of the best espressos he’s ever had. She feels it could be better and notes she’s a hard woman to please. Sonny likes a challenge.
They sit, and their talk turns to Kristina. Natalia says Alison asked about her but wasn’t sure if she should reach out. Sonny says right now, it might not be the best time. Natalia asks if there is anything she can do to help. He appreciates that and touches her hand. Suddenly, Carly appears.
Natalia leaves Sonny and his ex to talk and says she’ll see Sonny later. Carly blasts him because Diane just read her the riot act for flirting with a customer, and he asks who? She says it’s not important and that Diane says to keep up this alibi, as they basically have to fall back in love. Sonny thought this was supposed to be a one-night stand. Carly explains Diane doesn’t think people will buy that, and they need to convince people they are getting back together. If not, he’ll go to jail, and she’ll go down as an accomplice. He chuckles that he guesses she’s stuck as his girlfriend. Carly doesn’t mind pretending for an alibi, but she can’t lie to Donna and Avery, and she won’t break Donna’s heart letting her think her parents are back together. Sonny agrees they won’t lie to Donna. He says they need to be seen out and about and suggests dinner and drinks tonight. He also jokes, “Don’t be flirting with other people.”

At the hospital, TJ meets with Molly in the breakroom, who has surprised him with breakfast. She got in so late last night that she didn’t want to disturb him, so she slept on the couch. He asks where she was last night. She says she went to The Brown Dog and ran into Dex. They talked about her mom. TJ mentiones texting her last night and she didn’t respond. She claims she left her phone in the car and her battery died. TJ says he’s here for her, and if there is something she needs to tell him, she can.
Molly doesn’t know what to do and fears her mom is making stupid mistakes to protect Kristina. TJ asks if she thinks Kristina would let their mom be convicted for something she did. Molly says Sam believes Sonny is involved, but her mom wouldn’t sacrifice herself for Sonny, so somehow Kristina is involved. TJ knows she’s always been the strong one in her family, but she doesn’t have to go through this on her own. Molly gets a message from work and has to go as there is a meeting. She says she’ll try to make it home early, and they’ll talk. Molly heads out.
Stella arrives later after learning from Molly, who was zooming into the elevator, that TJ was here. She asks how he’s doing. TJ says Molly is consumed with her mom’s legal problems, and he worries she is using it to avoid grieving Irene. TJ is trying to be understanding, but at the same time, he’s starting to blame and resent Molly. Stella tells him not to jump to the end of their story, to give Molly time, and to talk to her about his grief. He says it comes and goes, but when it comes, it’s overwhelming. He wanted to go with Molly to Irene’s grave today, but she bolted first. Stella offers to go with him.
Dante helps Kristina move back to her place. Kristina notes how it feels like it’s been years since she’s been here. She’s also worried about her mom. Dante says her mom can take care of herself, and she needs to do the same. Kristina has been going to therapy and has joined a support group, which Dante notes is very brave of her. He asks if she’s sure she doesn’t want him to stick around. Kristina insists she’s fine, and she needs to prove to the family she can take care of herself. Dante says she doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone.
There is a knock at the door, and it’s Chase. Chase must ask Kristina some questions. Chase tells her that it won’t take long and basically pressures Dante to leave with a look. Dante goes into the hall and calls someone, saying Kristina is about to do something stupid.
Back in her apartment, Kristina insists to Chase that her mom is innocent. Chase isn’t there to talk about her mother, but Kristina’s whereabouts when Cates was killed. She doesn’t understand why they are going over this again when her mother is in jail and accused of murder. Chase explains the case is still open. Kristina says at the time, she was still going through postpartum depression and grieving, and she went to the cemetery to be with her daughter. He asks if she drove. She says she must have and can’t recall all the details. Chase notes her car never left the Metro Court garage that night, so did she drive her mother’s car? She again says things are foggy and thinks she took a rideshare.
There is a knock at the door, and it turns out to be Diane. She finds Chase there and hopes he’s not questioning Kristina without an attorney present. Chase asks what Diane is doing here, and she explains she is delivering soup. Chase says he’ll be in touch with Kristina, and leaves.
Kristina thanks Diane because she fears she just incriminated herself. Diane tells her that she’s not her client, so Kristina needs to say nothing to her. However, Chase questioning her without council means whatever she said is inadmissible. Kristina is relieved because she may have really incriminated herself. Diane tells her to get her own attorney because whatever she told Chase could open up a new avenue of investigation, and Chase won’t forget what was said.
Dante goes to the hospital and finds Chase waiting there. Dante asks if Chase is following him. Chase tells him about Diane arriving to interrupt his questioning and suspects Dante sent her. He reminds Dante that he recused himself from this investigation and he’ll let this one slide, but if he does it again, he’ll turn Dante in for interfearing.
In Pentonville, Alexis finds Heather wishing her a good morning from the top bunk as she wakes up. Heather heard her tossing and turning most of the night, and the first night can be rough. She says she’ll get used to the sounds and do what she can to help her. Alexis thinks she won’t be here long. Heather knows about the loss of her grandbaby and that she almost lost her daughter, too, and she’s sorry.
Heather complains that she’s never even gotten to hold her grandson, and she had a shot of getting out of here, but now it’s gone. Heather doesn’t mean to make this about her, and says just that she knows what she’s going through. Alexis thanks her. A guard comes and tells Alexis her lawyer is here, which surprises her.
In the visiting area, Alexis is shocked to learn Sonny hired Martin as her lawyer. Martin reviewed the transcript of her interview with the PCPD and asks what the hell was she thinking. Alexis says she wasn’t thinking. She agrees that he’s hired and invokes confidentiality. She admits she’s here protecting Kristina, and neither she nor Kristina had anything to do with Cates murder. However, Kristina may not be able to convince a jury of that. He asks what did happen.
Alexis tells him about finding the gun, and she was afraid Kristina was cracking and would hurt herself, so she got rid of it. Martin tells Alexis she needs to amend her statement and tell the PCPD the truth. Alexis won’t, as Kristina got the gun from Sonny. Then she took her car and went to the Quartermaine estate, intending to kill Cates. Alexis insists Kristina can’t handle standing trial for a murder she didn’t commit, so it has to be her. Martin says there is another choice. He tells her that she and Kristina’s only chance is to prove Cates was murdered by the man paying his fee, Sonny.
Next on General Hospital, Sam asks Carly to help her save Alexis. Lucky thinks it’s time to start praying. Kristina asks her father about the burden he’s carrying.
