Both the “Abigail” and Fiona tales are seemingly racing towards a conclusion this week as their lies unravel and their secrets come out. Combine that with Gabi and Stefan’s crumbling marriage and it looks like Days of Our Lives is getting itself ready for one heck of a refresh. Now if only that means the end of Body and Soul…
Better Apart
I’m going to be honest: I haven’t liked “Stabi” in ages as much as I like them as they’re breaking up. The “power and money at any cost” mode they were going through before Gabi’s stint in prison wore on my nerves. And I felt like their relationship after Gabi’s return was undercut by the constant waiting for Stefan and Ava’s secret to come out. (Plus Killer Connie was constantly distracting us with her plans.)
But watching them end their marriage because they’re both stubborn and petty, even though neither of them want to? Bring it on. That tearful goodbye at the DiMera mansion when both of them clearly didn’t want it, was just packed with emotion. Cherie Jimenez’s performance as Gabi reached out to touch Stefan’s face, then grasped his hand in farewell was just phenomenal in capturing her conflicted feelings.
But also, a part of this is how mature they’re being after their immaturity. Gabi was remarkably self aware in telling Stefan that wanting desperately to hurt someone for hurting you isn’t something that two people who truly love each other do. She’s not wrong, but it’s obviously not that easy for them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they relent, but also, despite this late burst of emotion for them, I wouldn’t be upset if the divorce goes through. Because EJ and Gabi could actually work, too. At the very least, I’m curious to get more of a test of them together to see how things go.
A Double Fakeout?
It looks like the “Chabby” wedding is going to happen next week, but with Holly (wow, she just happened to run into “Abigail” in one of the world’s largest cities), JJ and Steve all on the case, whether it concludes or not without a big reveal is another matter. Next week’s spoilers definitely make it seem like “Abigail” is about to get called out. But that’s all pretty standard boilerplate stuff.
I have another Faux Abigail theory. Last week, I talked about how confusing this whole thing is. “Abigail” actually did get plastic surgery, so her little siblings didn’t recognize her, but they also have never mentioned a sister and there has got to be a reason for so much confusion in the story.
So what if there’s more reveal coming? We don’t know how this all came about or what prompted “Abigail’s” plastic surgery. She could truly be Abigail with amnesia, but given plastic surgery and convinced that she’s Mark’s sister, courtesy of Clyde. Maybe their sister was in the car accident with the parents, but actually died. Clyde nabbed the mom, faked Abigail’s death, wiped her memory and gave her amnesia and sent her back to Mark.
Why else would she change her entire face? There’d be no reason for her to look different from how she looked as the Greenes’ sister, if she was just going to claim to be Abigail with plastic surgery to begin with. Chad wouldn’t know what she looked like regardless.
Maybe Mark never actually needed to provide fake DNA results, but he just did it, figuring it wouldn’t be a match. I’m just trying to figure out if there’s an actual reason for this to be so confusing or to have such big plot holes.
Game Over
If Abigail is exposed as a fraud next week, though, she won’t be the only one. Because Fiona’s lies just came apart, all courtesy of Eric. That’s right: Eric. (Sarah remembering Fiona’s face didn’t hurt, either, but still, that was thanks to Eric.) I mentioned last week how this was likely a last minute change due to Drake Hogestyn not being well enough to play John digging into the truth. But as heartbreaking as that is, I like Eric digging into this. I like this whole go-getter thing with him, when he’s not being a flake or a sad sack. Maybe he can be an investigative photojournalist and dig into more mysteries and crimes? Is that a thing?
But once the truth is out, does that mean we’re at the end of Fiona? Either prison or, let’s be honest, Xander could do something horrible. He did just threaten a kid. I don’t want her to leave! And I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious about how she’d stack up against Kristen. We saw how Rachel’s momma reacted with an instant flare of jealousy catching Fiona talking to Brady at the SPD.
Fiona’s no shrinking violet (my God, her threats to Sophia were intense) and pitting those two against each other could be a ton of fun. But at the same time, if Brady even thought for a second about hooking up with Xander’s mom again after all this, I would be beyond worried about his judgment. I know, it’s Brady… but still. For your own sake (not ours), stay away from her, man.
One thing I do like about the Fiona and “Abigail” stuff about to unravel is that between the two stories, pretty much all of the town is going to be affected somehow. The Hortons, the DiMeras, the Kirakises, the Bradys — they’re all tied into these. (Maybe not the Body and Soul folks, though…) But I feel like we’re about at the end of them, and things will calm down for the 15,000th episode at the beginning of November when it turns to saying goodbye to Doug and Bill Hayes.
