Today is a special day on General Hospital — at least for one person in particular! Because on July 19, 2010, Elizabeth gave birth to her and Lucky’s son, Aiden. Granted, at first, they thought that he was Nikolas’ son, but once Helena’s machinations were exposed, Lucky got to play dad.
At least, for a few months… Because just over a year after Aiden’s birth, Lucky just up and left his life and his family behind.
That’s harsh enough, but ever since, poor Aiden’s never really had a father figure in his life. He was just an infant back when Nikolas was playing dad and was still a baby when Lucky up and left town, leaving Liz to raise Aiden on her own. Then there was Franco. Aiden grew close to him when he was around, and was devastated by his murder. And still Lucky was nowhere to be found.
We saw how Jake reacted to Jason returning after a three year hiatus. Lucky doesn’t even have the excuse of being dead — he’s just been gone Aiden’s entire life. He missed his son growing up, wasn’t there to comfort him during his bullying and was MIA when Aiden came out to Liz.
And now Lucky’s returning to Port Charles and a family he, if we’re being real here, abandoned long, long ago. Aiden’s a sweet kid, but we can only imagine the resentment he’s got to be feeling after a lifetime of his dad missing.
Whatever Lucky’s reason for coming home, we’ve got a feeling he’ll be in for a rude awakening if he wants to get to know the son he left behind. We wouldn’t blame Aiden one bit for turning his back on Lucky. And we’ve got a feeling Liz, who knows more than a bit about being abandoned by her parents, will be right there to support him no matter what
So happy birthday, Aiden. Enjoy it while you can! Because we’ve got a feeling that soon enough, life is going to get a whole lot more complicated.
