Young and the Restless

How Young and the Restless’ Zuleyka Silver Is Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month In A Big Way

Zuleyka Silver continues to dominate the screen as the tough and decisive Audra on The Young and the Restless. She was born in Mexico and raised in Los Angeles and recently opened up about living in both worlds. She also praised her character for helping to inform her own life.

She’s 50-50

Appearing on CBS News with Suzanne Marques, Silver explained what it was like coming from Mexico, with family still there, and living in the US. She stated, “It’s interesting. I don’t feel 100% Mexican when I’m in Mexico, and I don’t feel 100% American when I’m here, but I think that’s the beauty of my upbringing, right? I don’t have to be one thing. I can be both.”

She loves both places, finding the melding of the cultures to be wonderful. “I love that we get to celebrate that,” she said.

She also explained that her mother supports her wholeheartedly and even shares pictures of her when she’s grocery shopping. Fans are shocked to learn about the mother/daughter connection and will often take pictures of her mother’s pictures that she shows them on her phone.

Audra’s Authenticity Inspires Her

Silver also explained that while she’s a little more introverted in real life, Audra is not. So when she goes to do something, she’ll ask herself what her character would do in a similar situation, finding inspirational courage. Because Audra can walk into a room and command it. Silver explained, “I love how authentic she is. She’s not afraid to tell anyone about themselves. And she stands up for what she believes in. And she’s ambitious, and she’s a go-getter. I love that about her.”

She posted a clip from the interview on Instagram, captioning it, “I sat down with @suzmarques this morning to talk about all things Audra and to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Celebrating my culture every day and having this opportunity to share more of my story with you all makes me so happy 🇲🇽🇺🇸.” Co-star Courtney Hope (Sally) praised Silver by responding, “Beautiful, intelligent, and well spoken! 🥰.” (Learn why Silver is a throwback to classic Y&R.)
