Bryton James is actually content with Devon and Abby’s happy, settled life in the Chancellor mansion. He told Soaps.com, “Sometimes a fairytale storyline is perfect after all.”
Next, James was asked if he ever wished Devon had followed in his father Tucker’s footsteps as a playboy. The Y&R star replied that juicy flings aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Moreover, he admitted that he’d love to see Devon and Abby as endgame. However, Bryton can’t help but look back and wonder what could have been with a different storyline.
He wishes the writers had done more with Devon’s relationship with Roxanne (played by Tatyana Ali over a decade ago). “I always thought there was a lot left on the table with that one,” he revealed. Devon and Roxanne’s relationship began as one of those picture-perfect romances. But it didn’t stay that way like most things in Genoa City.
Furthermore, the relationship hit a major roadblock when Devon had an affair with Tyra. Devon and Roxanne tried to patch things up, but the final blow from his side jeopardized the whole thing. Devon accused Roxanne of being a gold digger after she inherited Katherine’s fortune. It’s no wonder James feels there was unfinished business in that storyline.
He believes so much more could have been explored! In addition, the soap icon gave a shoutout to Mishael Morgan, who played Hilary. Bryton loved the dynamic between Devon and Hilary and how dedicated his character was to doing anything for her. In short, some actors might crave the thrill of scandalous, philandering plotlines.
But James is happy with Devon’s blissful life with Abby until the writers decide to shake things up.
