In the morning, Kristen and Rachel come to the townhouse while Marlena is still in her robe. Excited to see her granddaughter, Marlena picks Rachel up in a big bear hug. Kristen explains Rachel woke up crying from a nightmare that something bad happened to her daddy. She needed to see him right away. Meanwhile, in the parking garage, Brady comes to the driver’s seat of his car.
Paulina meets Jada at the crime scene outside the Square. Jada reports they don’t have an ID on the driver who hit Sarah, but they’ll gather footage from the security cameras. Based on the skid marks, they deduced the car clipped a pole in the distance. She’ll have forensics examine the grey paint found.
In the parking garage, Brady gets out of his grey car, wondering what he’s doing there. He flashes back to drinking at Small Bar. “Oh, God. Did I drive drunk?”
At the hospital, and still in their clothes from the night before, Fiona pours her and Xander coffee. Maggie passes and then tears up. If she had found the cabin key, Sarah would have gotten on the ferry with Xander, and they’d be on their honeymoon right now. Xander assures her the only person to blame is the one who ran Sarah over and left her to die. Fiona guilty flashes back to being said person. If Sarah doesn’t pull through, Xander vows to hunt that bastard down and kill them with his own hands.
Kayla comes to the lobby and tells them Sarah’s stable. She had multiple lacerations on her liver and spleen, but they were able to repair those. It’s a miracle she doesn’t have any broken bones, but she does have soft tissue bruising and inflammation they’ll need to evaluate. Assuming there are no complications, Kayla is confident Sarah will recover.
In the townhouse, Marlena brings Rachel to the kitchen to make pancakes while they wait for Brady to wake up. Kristen stays in the living room to make a work call. Brady lumbers in. When Kristen accuses him of doing a walk of shame, he insists he was working all night. Kristen rolls her eyes and lets out a slow breath as he leaves the living room.
At the crime scene, Jada instructs an officer to canvas the bartenders in the area since there’s a good chance the driver was intoxicated. She gets a call from Kayla and relays the good news about Sarah to Paulina. Jada rushes to the hospital to question her.
Xander comes to a battered and bruised Sarah’s hospital room. He asks if she needs anything. “Just you,” she weakly says. Xander promises to take her on the honeymoon of her dreams when she’s better, and relays Bonnie is watching Victoria. If her first word is “beer,” they’ll know who to blame. Sarah quips at least it won’t be his mother’s fault.
In the lobby, Jada tells Maggie she hopes Sarah can ID the driver. Fiona cowers in her chair. When Xander returns, Maggie goes to see her daughter. Jada tells Xander the city surveillance didn’t pick up video of the incident, but they’ll check with local businesses. As he recounts the night’s events, he realizes the driver was still there when he found Sarah. Why would they stay? Jada supposes they wanted to make sure help came. “And then they fled?” Xander says, noting it doesn’t make sense. When Jada says she’ll go talk to Sarah, Fiona tries but fails to prevent her from doing so.
Marlena returns to the living room as Kristen hangs up with Mr. Shin. Rachel joins them to report her daddy isn’t in his room and he didn’t sleep in his bed last night. Having changed, Brady comes out. Rachel runs to his arms. Kristen helps him cover, regarding his bed already being made. Rachel asks if she and Brady can do something, just the two of them. Kristen allows it, but they have a mother/daughter day today. He can call her later to work something out.
As Rachel says goodbye, she tells Brady she’s glad he didn’t get smushed by a steamroller like in her dream. After Rachel and Kristen leave, Marlena narrows her eyes and purses her lips at Brady. He’s been coming home late recently, so she was happy to see his car in the garage early last night — despite it being in her spot. When she leaves to give John a pain pill, Brady flashes back to drinking with Fiona.
Brady anxiously calls Fiona to ask what the hell happened last night. He remembers being at Small Bar with her and then waking up behind the wheel of his car. “Do you know how I got home?” In flashback, Fiona puts Brady in the driver’s seat, because, should Xander discover his car hit Sarah, she can’t have him finding out she was the one driving. “Better you take the fall than me.” In the present, she lies that she tried to make Brady take a cab home, but he said he was fine to drive. However, she can’t talk right now because Sarah’s been in an accident. She hangs up. As Brady stresses, he recalls hearing the crunching metal of an accident.
When Xander brings Jada to Sarah’s room, Sarah can only remember that the car was grey. The lights were too bright to see the driver. Jada vows to find out who did this and leaves. Sarah shivers as Kayla comes to the room. Xander puts a blanket over Sarah, but she doesn’t feel it. He squeezes her legs, but she can’t feel his hand. “I can’t feel anything.”
In the Square, Kristen and Rachel eat pastries. Kristen is surprised she’s still hungry after eating pancakes. Rachel confesses she threw them in the trash. “I love Grandma, but she can’t even make cereal taste good.” Paulina happens upon them, noting Rachel writes to her about taking her job. Amused, Kristen asks her daughter about wanting to be mayor. “Well, she’s rich,” Rachel retorts. “Not from being Mayor,” Paulina assures her.
When Paulina mentions the hit-and-run, Kristen has Rachel put in her earbuds. She steps away with Paulina to learn that Sarah was the victim. They only know that it was a grey car and that the driver was drunk. Before leaving, Paulina wishes Rachel luck with her mayoral aspirations but advises she start with class president. Rachel reveals to Kristen that she heard their conversation. She notes lots of people have grey cars — even Daddy.” Kristen raises her brow.
At the townhouse, Brady anxiously reads his tablet and takes aspirin. Marlena returns to tell him Sarah was hit by a car, and the driver left the scene.
At the hospital, Kayla checks Sarah’s reflexes. She feels nothing.
