This is not a drill: Against all odds, Sami is coming home once again! Fans will remember that it’s been two years since Alison Sweeney’s last Days of Our Lives appearance, when Sami stormed out of town, vowing never, ever to return again. Just as she was about to tie the knot with Lucas, she’d learned he’d been the one to kidnap her, discovered her sister Belle was sleeping with EJ and was just done with it all.
And in the years since, she’s stuck to that vow, not even coming home when her mom supposedly died, her brother went through heartache after heartache and her sister’s marriage nearly fell apart. But now, that’s all about to change, TV Insider reports.
“I remembered Sami’s grand exit storming out of the DiMera mansion,” Sweeney recalled. “I was interested to hear how and why they were bringing Sami back to town. With Sami it could be anything.”
And though she’s keeping mum on what’s bringing Sami back to town, she did tease to TV Insider that, “It was definitely an unexpected storyline they pitched me. I have to tell you, of all the ideas, I was pretty shocked.”
For someone who’s played a character who’s done as many shocking things as Sami, Sweeney’s surprise is definitely intriguing! “EJami” fans are likely going to be excited, as this time around EJ’s free and currently reeling from losing his wife — and Sami’s nemesis — Nicole. He’s also lost DiMera, is back to mostly being the town pariah, and about all he’s left with is his DA job.
Sami’s return could be just what’s needed to snap him out of his funk… Or make it that much worse! The on-again/off-again couple has always been volatile, at best.
Whatever the story brings, Sweeney told TV Insider she, “was thrilled to be invited to return. I love playing Sami and I am always happy for the chance to come back.”
