General Hospital’s Tabyana Ali Has Some Advice for Dealing With Trolls: ‘Don’t Stoop to Their Level’

No one likes online trolls. And when you add racism and bigotry into their trolling, it only gets much, much worse. General Hospital’s Tabyana Ali has had to deal with racist trolls more than anyone should — and by that, we mean it should never happen.

A little while back, she spoke out with a post on X/Twitter after some particularly heinous comments and received a wave of support from fans, friends, co-stars and General Hospital and ABC itself. It was an incredible outpouring that showed us all that there are more good people out there than bad ones. But that didn’t make what had been happening any better.

So now, Ali has written an op-ed piece for our sister site, Deadline, explaining just how much the comments, the racism and the trolling has hurt her — and how she’s worked to repair some of the damage done to her self-worth.

It’s been a journey, but the support she’s gotten has made a big difference.

“The day of the post I received calls from ABC letting me know that they were in full support of me using my voice,” she writes, “and they had my back. I felt so grounded and so grateful hearing from them. I don’t think they understood how much that meant to me.

“My castmates/friends, both within the GH family and beyond, were also so supportive. They all rallied together and shared such encouraging words.”
And for those being trolled, especially public figures in the industry, Ali has some advice. First off, she says, “Do not take it personally. Do not give them your power by accepting what they say.”

We feel what we feel, and that’s fine. We’re all human, “but remember you are more than a social media comment.”

The entertainment industry, she shares, comes with a whole lot of rejection — that’s just its nature — “so this is just another simple storm that will make you stronger. Don’t stoop to their level. That’s what haters want. Don’t give them the satisfaction.”

“I know what social media is,” Ali shared at the end. “When I’m tired of it, I’ll turn off my phone, touch some grass, see the sun, eat a delicious meal, and find something to do. Peace around the world for generations!”

General Hospital was quick to repost the op-ep piece on X and Jacqueline Grace Lopez (Blaze) wasted no time in having Ali’s back. She strongly encouraged everyone to read the article with a tweet, writing, “This woman is wise beyond her years, and I find myself always learning from her example. So proud of you, girl! Forever friend and fan.”

Some good, at least, came out of all of this, if Ali’s words can help others going through the same thing. Stopping bigotry, hate and trolling from happening in the first place is a much bigger issue, but in the meantime, we at Soaps.com stand firmly with Tabyana Ali against racism and bullying and can’t thank her enough for speaking up and speaking out.
