Days of Our Lives’ Robert Scott Wilson Confirms, ‘There’s No Coming Back from This’

When Alex looks back on life on Days of Our Lives, we’ve got a feeling he’s going to split it up into two eras. There was before the wedding and after. Because after Theresa’s lies came to light — after the two tied the knot, sadly — nothing is ever going to be quite the same in his life or even in Alex himself.

When Robert Scott Wilson talked with Soap Opera Digest, he confirmed that Alex and Theresa are definitely done. (Which we pretty much got by him wasting no time in going for an annulment.)

“There’s no coming back from this,” he said. “She’s a bad person. She got the best of Alex, but now her time is up.” (Read how it all went down in our recap of the episode.)

But we can’t forget how insufferable Alex was once he got power and money. He turned his back on Justin, the man who raised him (and has always been his true dad), gleefully took over Titan, and went about throwing his inheritance around like a spoiled brat.

“Alex is a narcissistic guy,” Wilson admitted to SOD. “He doesn’t ever want to be wrong. He thought he had all this power and money and all of a sudden he just looks like the biggest fool out there.”

That’s to put it mildly. There’s just no way around it. Alex is embarrassed. He’s been humbled. We suggested yesterday that it may be time for Alex to switch out for Ben, but it may not take that much to pull Alex back from the brink of being insufferable.

The good news is, this experience has made him, according to Wilson, “a bit kinder and gentler. He’s also quietly stronger and quietly sharper.”

With that said, Wilson made clear to SOD that “he’s still Alex.” Being given everything — at least superficially — only to have it yanked away and given him his true family back, “has provided him a sense of gratitude and an ego check.”

In the end, “He needs to chill out for a little while and then do a little self work.”

For a time, that did seem to be what he was doing, from therapy sessions with Marlena, to his empathy and understanding with Theresa, Tate and her addiction. But then all the progress he’d seemed to be making for a bit went out the window as soon as Alex got his hands on Xander’s full inheritance.

Maybe this time, Alex can make some permanent changes and grow into not just a Kiriakis who makes Justin proud, but a character we can all cheer on.
